This world traveler has made the best of her time! Barbara Lee S. spent an incredible amount of time looking up to her World Travalin’ parents and loving the one closest to her; Barbara’s husband. As time went on, she would also become a world traveler too! Check out Barbara’s story, exclusively on The Living Legacies

A Family Travelin’ Coast to Coast

I was born in Santa Monica California. Graduated from high school. After high school, I got set up on a blind date with the man who I later married in 1955. When I married my husband he was in the family business of manufacturing Chandeliers the Crystal Import Company in Los Angeles on Melrose. We have two children and both helped in the chandelier business. His name was Jim Smith and we were married for 35 years.
Mom and Dad went on business trips every year all over Europe. They went to Austria, Germany, Paris, Thailand, London, Belgium, China, Hong Kong. One of the most interesting things she (mom) ate was an octopus, and she really enjoyed it!

They went to Dallas every year to buy things for the chandeliers. Dad designed the chandeliers.

They made our holidays the most fun, she is a wonderful gift giver. She loved needlepoint and gardening. She loved to grow and water and enjoy beautiful flowers.

Travalin’ Solo

After her husband passed away in 1990 she found her way to Belize and lived there for 21 years in Central America – played in the sun, had parties with mariachi bands, enjoying good food and good friends.
Barbara moved to Nashville to be closer to her mother who was in a nursing home at the time. Her daughter Karen moved to TN to be with her mother, Barbara, and they took care of each other. Her daughter had to go through two major surgeries and now Karen takes care of Barbara… and visits her daily at Camden Rehab.
